As Floridians, we understand the importance of safeguarding our homes against the unpredictable and often severe weather conditions that come our way. The recently re-enacted My Safe Florida Home Program, which is a grant program initiated during the latest Special Session of the Florida Legislature, helps homeowners do just that. This program offers two invaluable components aimed at enhancing the resilience of your home against wind damage.

Wind Mitigation Home Inspections
Firstly, the program provides free Wind Mitigation Home Inspections for all owners of site-built, single-family homes or townhouses. These inspections identify critical areas of your home’s construction that can be improved to better withstand future wind-related damages. The best part? The state conducts these inspections at no cost to eligible homeowners, thanks to state funding.
Wind Mitigation Grants
Secondly, the program offers Wind Mitigation Grants for home retrofitting construction based on the recommendations from the free inspections. These grants assist homeowners in making necessary improvements to fortify their homes, ensuring greater protection against the elements.
How to Benefit from the Program
In this blog post, we’ll delve deeper into the My Safe Florida Home Program. We’ll explain how you can benefit from these inspections and grants to enhance your home’s durability and safety. Stay tuned to learn how you can take advantage of this incredible opportunity to protect your biggest investment—your home.
Application Process
The program opened to Florida homeowners on July 1st of this year. This means the clock is ticking to apply! Your first step is to have your home inspected by a qualified and licensed Home Inspector. The Home Inspector will analyze many components of your home to determine its readiness for a hurricane event. Their suggestions in the Wind Mitigation report will form part of the basis for your qualification for the My Safe Florida Home Grant.
To begin this process, you must apply online at the My Safe Florida Home website. If approved, the State of Florida will assign a contracted Home Inspector to your home to provide the Wind Mitigation report.
Review and Grant Application
Once the My Safe Florida system uploads the Wind Mitigation report, the state will review your home and its identified needs. After the review process, you can then submit an application for the grant.
Grant Details
If approved, the grant will provide $2 for every $1 you contribute, up to a total of $10,000. This means that if your roofing project costs $15,000, the State would provide you with $10,000, and you would be responsible for the remaining $5,000.
